Current Learning Focus

Class Reading Book – Summer 1 Term:

Tidy by Emily Gravett

Pete the Badger likes everything to be neat and tidy. When he decides to clean up the forest, he removes more and more of the natural environment, only to discover that wildlife needs trees, plants and habitats to survive. This beautifully illustrated story encourages children to think about caring for the environment and the importance of balance in nature.

Greta and the Giants by Zoë Tucker and Zoe Persico

Inspired by the work of climate activist Greta Thunberg, this powerful story follows Greta as she stands up to the Giants who are destroying the forest. With courage and determination, she inspires others to join her in protecting the natural world. The book introduces children to themes of environmental responsibility, teamwork and making a positive difference in the world.

Both books provide excellent opportunities for discussion about sustainability, conservation and how individuals can help protect our planet.

Year 2 to Year 3 Class Organisation – September 2026

Following a review of pupil numbers, current Year 2 will move from three classes to two classes from September 2026.

As part of the class organisation process, children may nominate three friends from within the year group. We will ensure that at least one of these friends is placed in your child's new class.

Please complete the Google Form by 9.00am on Monday 22nd June 2026, providing exactly three names. We are unable to consider any order of preference.

The new classes will be shared with families before the end of the summer term. Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please speak to your child's class teacher or contact the school office.

Arbor Parent App & Parent Portal

We will soon be launching the new Arbor Parent App and Parent Portal, which will become our main system for communication between school and home, replacing the Greenhouse app.

The Arbor system will allow parents and carers to:

Receive school messages and updates
Check attendance information
Book parent consultation appointments (from Autumn 1 2026)
Make payments for trips and clubs (from Autumn 2 2026)

The rollout will take place in phases:

Year 1 and Year 5 families will receive welcome emails on 2nd June 2026
EYFS and Years 2, 3, 4 and 6 families will receive welcome emails on 22nd June 2026

Drop-in support sessions will also be available to help families activate and use the app.

Families will shortly receive a Data Capture Form to check and update contact information before launch.

Further guidance and support will be shared in the coming weeks.

Change of School Catering Provider – from 5th January 2026

From Monday 5th January 2026, our school meals will be provided by Olive Dining, replacing Wilson Jones. We want to remind parents of how the system currently works and highlight what will change:

Automatic meal booking: All children are automatically booked a school meal (this has been in place since September).
Meal selection: Pupils will choose their meal at the counter—no need to select a meal preference on Scopay.
Packed lunches: If your child prefers to bring a packed lunch from home, no Scopay selection is required.

Uniform

In Year 2, children are encouraged to take pride in their appearance and learn the importance of following our school’s uniform expectations. This helps them prepare for the transition into Key Stage 2.

Please note:

Only stud earrings are permitted (no other jewellery, except the Sikh Kara).
Smart watches and large hair bows are not allowed.
On PE days, stud earrings should be removed and a sweatband must be worn over a Kara.
Long hair should be tied back or plaited for health and safety reasons.

PE Days

PE takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday for each class. Children must come to school dressed in full PE kit on their PE day.

Home Learning

Reading

Daily reading plays a vital role in your child’s development. Please support your child by encouraging reading as part of their regular home routine. It is important for all children to read every day.

Also, ensure that you sign their Reading Record every day.

Books to Enjoy: For Your Child to Read or for You to Read Aloud

Your child also has access to Active Learn, where they can use Bug Club to support their reading and comprehension online.

Homework

Year 2 homework will include daily reading and weekly spellings which will be given out every Friday. Please practise these words each week with your child.
